Sustainability
As İzmir Özel Türk Koleji Büyükçiğli Campus, we collaborate with SÜGEP Academy to offer a learning experience integrated with hands-on practice, based on an approach focused on equipping young people with 21st-century competencies.
Our Courses:
On January 10, 2025, İTK students who successfully completed the 8-lesson Sustainable Development Youth Leaders Training Program received their participation certificates. At the same time, they reached the stage of going into the field to bring to life the project ideas they developed during the program process, which also includes an incubation process.
On Thursday, January 16, 2025, within the scope of the small group project prepared by our students titled “A Model Proposal for the Use of a Bioreactor Containing Algae Biomass in Greywater Recycling,” they visited İZSU Çiğli Wastewater Treatment Plant, the largest biological treatment facility in İzmir, and learned by observation how wastewater generated from domestic use is treated before being discharged into the sea.
At the TÜRÇEV Sustainable Environmental Education Congress held in Antalya Kemer on February 10–12, our students were awarded the “Best Young Participant Oral Presentation Award.”
With their project titled “A Model Proposal for the Use of a Bioreactor Containing Algae Biomass in Greywater Recycling,” our students presented an innovative solution in sustainable water management. The paper of the project prepared by our students was published in the congress proceedings book.
On February 20, 2025, within the scope of the large group project prepared by our İTK Young Sustainability Leaders Büyükçiğli Campus students titled “Why Did İzmir Bay Become Polluted?”, our students conducted fieldwork around Halkapınar and the Bayraklı coastline to take a water sample from Meles Stream flowing into the bay and to observe the pollution.
On March 1, 2025, within the scope of the “Why Did İzmir Bay Become Polluted?” project, our İTK Young Sustainability Leaders Büyükçiğli Campus students were in Salihli district of Manisa to take a water sample from Kurşunlu Waterfall, which feeds the Gediz River, make observations, and complete video shoots they will prepare as young spokespeople for the environment.
