Güven Zeyrek was born in Ayvalık in 1935. During his secondary education, his acquaintance with his esteemed teacher, painter Prof. Adnan Turani, gradually transformed his interest in art into a lifelong passion. After graduating from Ankara Gazi University Education Institute in 1957, he settled in İzmir. Between 1957 and 1987, he served as a Painting and Art History teacher at İzmir Özel Türk Koleji. During this period, he became widely recognized through exhibitions he held in İzmir, İstanbul, and Ankara.
In addition to his career as an educator, Güven Zeyrek was a significant artist who consistently maintained his own distinctive style within contemporary Turkish painting. He participated in juried painting exhibitions organized by institutions such as DYO and Vakko, receiving numerous awards. In 1983-1984, he met Prof. Dr. Süleyman Velioğlu and joined the Akatünvel Art Collective founded by Velioğlu.
Between 1985 and 2000, he conducted extensive studies and research at museums in Florence, Venice, Nice, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Sarajevo, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Odessa, and Sevastopol. In 2007, marking the 50th year of his artistic career, he held a retrospective exhibition encompassing all phases of his artistic life at Kbele Art Gallery. This exhibition was later presented at the İzmir Atatürk Cultural Center.
Between 1957 and 2009, over a period exceeding 50 years, Güven Zeyrek produced more than 500 works of art. He continued his role as a painting teacher at İzmir Özel Türk Koleji until his retirement in 1987.

Turan Çelik was born in Yozgat in 1928. He pursued his university education at the Academy of Commercial Sciences until his final year. At that point, he made a radical decision and, unable to set aside his passion for sports, gained admission to the Physical Education Department of Gazi Education Institute. After graduating, he married Sevim Hanım, who had been his classmate.
Following graduation, his assigned post was Kastamonu; however, he first chose to fulfill his military service. During the 1950s, while completing his military duty, he played for the Air Force Academy Basketball Team, which became Turkish Champion with Turan Çelik as a member. After completing his military service, he worked as a teacher in Kastamonu for eight years. Wherever he served, Çelik made significant contributions to basketball, founding Kastamonu’s first basketball team and establishing a sports court for the city.
In 1958, upon the encouragement of his friend Faik Gökay, he took the assistantship examinations at Gazi University and was appointed as an assistant, a role he held for many years. He later established the English Language and Physical Education Departments in İzmir and Bornova. Subsequently, he served at Buca Faculty of Education. While continuing his duties there, he was assigned to Şaphane Village in Kütahya, after which he requested retirement following many years of service at universities.
Having played a major role in the establishment of Türkiye’s first Girls’ Basketball Team, Çelik also pioneered many other initiatives. In 1983, Turan Çelik continued his professional career at İzmir Özel Türk Koleji and served within the İTK Family for many years. Consisting of two sections, the hall is used primarily for training purposes. Our students carry out basketball, volleyball, handball training sessions, as well as folk dance practices, in this facility.
