Foreign Languages Education

At İTK, foreign language education prepares students to become multilingual, confident, and ready for the global world.

The İTK English Program is designed to educate students as responsible global citizens of the 21st century and to equip them to use English as a common language of communication in today’s interconnected world. Our goal is to ensure that students use English not only as a means of communication but also as a strong tool for their future and for lifelong learning, in a natural and effective way.

Daily life oriented English and 21st century skills (critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, digital and information literacy, and cultural awareness) are at the core of our program. Through this approach, our students are raised as individuals who are ready to succeed in multicultural and multilingual environments.

At İTK, English education begins at the preschool level with children aged 3 and continues uninterrupted through the end of high school. At every level, lessons are conducted entirely in English, and students are encouraged to use English naturally as the target language.

Starting from Grade 2, our students participate in internationally recognized Cambridge English Assessment exams. In the following years, access to international academic programs is provided, and at the high school level, College Board Advanced Placement (AP), IGCSE, and International A-Level programs are offered.

Our curriculum is designed based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and focuses on developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through contemporary, student centered methods grounded in real life communication.

In addition to English, students have the opportunity to learn German, French, or Spanish as a second foreign language starting from the preparatory class.

At İTK, students receive a total of 5,200 hours of English instruction throughout their education, enabling them to use the language effectively and confidently in all contexts.

At the end of the program, İTK students
Understand that English is primarily a tool for communication and exchange of ideas.
Use English naturally within their own cultural contexts.
Develop strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
Reach a level at which they can travel and communicate comfortably anywhere in the world.
Collaborate with international peers.
Succeed in international programs, examinations, and academic environments.

Preschool Education

At İTK, English education begins in preschool. Our students aged 3, 4, and 5 explore the language through games, stories, drama, songs, and arts and crafts activities. Our 3 and 4 year old students receive five hours of English instruction per week, ensuring daily exposure to the language and making English a natural part of their lives. Our 5 year old students receive a total of 10 hours of English instruction per week, with two lessons per day, enabling them to learn the language in context in an enjoyable way.

The learning process at İTK is highly engaging thanks to a rich variety of materials and activities. Our teachers support lessons with colorful posters, cards, puppets, and similar tactile materials to ensure lasting learning. We are aware that today’s students grow up in a digital world; therefore, e-books, interactive whiteboard applications, digital games, and interactive presentations are also integrated into our program.

Through drama, games, group activities, and arts and crafts, students learn to communicate in English and to work collaboratively. Our preschool program also supports developmental areas such as phonetic awareness, hand eye coordination, and basic listening and speaking skills.

Stories are at the heart of our English curriculum. Through stories, students learn vocabulary and language structures at the preschool level in natural contexts, while also internalizing important values such as empathy, sensitivity, and awareness. Games, arts and crafts, and story retelling activities connected to stories help develop students’ creativity and narrative skills.

Our curriculum includes themes from students’ daily lives such as toys, school, home, family, and emotions. Supported by both physical and digital resources, this approach makes learning both enjoyable and effective. At İTK, moral and social development is also a priority. In every unit, values such as apologizing, helping friends, waiting in line, and being kind to people and animals are emphasized.

In addition, as İTK, we celebrate Turkish national days through English activities and include global awareness days such as Global Handwashing Day, World Water Day, and World Animal Day in our program. In this way, our students are raised as responsible global citizens with strong moral values.

Primary School

The English language program at İTK is designed to integrate academic achievement in a balanced way with social and moral development. The program focuses not only on English language and communication skills, but also on the development of global competencies required in the 21st century.

As students learn to collaborate, think critically, and be creative, they also broaden their cultural awareness and global perspectives—building on the values foundation established during the preschool years.

The program supports language and social skills development through a wide range of engaging activities such as games, songs, drama, role-play, storytelling, and arts and crafts. In a fun and interactive learning environment, students develop self-confidence, responsibility, cooperation, and effective communication skills with their peers. At all levels, instruction and communication are conducted 100% in English, enabling students to use the language naturally in real-life contexts.

Oral communication is one of the core focuses of our program. Emphasis is placed on helping students develop accurate pronunciation and natural intonation. Alongside speaking skills, listening skills are developed holistically throughout the primary school years. Pre-reading and pre-writing activities begin in the preparatory class, are structured in Grade 1, and continue systematically throughout the primary years.

Preparatory Classes
Our 6-year-old preparatory students receive a total of 17 hours of English instruction per week. This program is structured around three main components:
Core Course Program (8 hours per week):

In these lessons, students learn age-appropriate vocabulary and grammatical structures through topics such as school life, toys and sports, parts of the body, animals and nature, activities, food, family, personal abilities, physical appearance, and clothing.

Each unit also includes a cultural dimension, enabling students to explore how these concepts are experienced in different parts of the world, such as Indian cuisine or school life in the United Kingdom.

Skills Program (4 hours per week):

These lessons support the core course and allow students to practice the language through interactive activities. In skills lessons, particular emphasis is placed on phonics (sound-letter relationships) and many of our CLIL lessons, especially Mathematics, Culinary Arts, and Geography.

Through this approach, students continue to develop their language skills while also acquiring subject-specific academic vocabulary.

Life Skills (5 hours per week):

Students begin each day with energetic activities and breakfast together with their teachers. This process supports both language learning and the reinforcement of core values.

Activities may take place in the classroom or in the garden and encourage social interaction with different classes. During breakfast, students review vocabulary, learn to use polite expressions, and engage in natural English speaking practice.
