Message from Our Board of Directors

“Let Us Raise Such Young People…”
İzmir Özel Türk Koleji began its educational journey on November 15, 1950, founded by our late father, Bahattin Tatış, a young mathematics teacher devoted to education and an idealist.
The young mathematics teacher, whose heart had long been burning with the desire to establish a private school and who went to Ankara with the excitement of carrying the torch of education at the forefront, found his enthusiasm shared by the Chairman of the Board of Education and Discipline of the time, who addressed him with the following words;
“You are right, my dear teacher. If there are foreign colleges in our country, why should there not be a Turkish College? I see that Turkish parents prefer to send their children to private schools opened by foreigners. Why and for what reason do they not show interest in Turkish schools? You will establish such a school and carry out such work that it will be pointed out with admiration. I invite you to such a challenging struggle. Give me your word.”
My dear father could not hide his excitement in response to these words and gave his promise;
“My teacher, you have given me a very great and heavy responsibility. In a sense, you have placed a national duty upon me. I believe that I will be able to shoulder this responsibility, and I give you my word…”
He kept his promise; on November 15, 1950, with 26 students, he founded İzmir Özel Türk Koleji at the building numbered 23 on İzmir Talatpaşa Boulevard, as the first and only school to bear the Turkish name. Our esteemed founder had a very clear goal:
“May İzmir Özel Türk Koleji become the most beautiful and most disciplined school in Türkiye, and even in the world. May the scientists graduating from this school reach a level respected by our country and the world and leave their mark on science. Let us educate such graduates that they register unparalleled achievements in ‘Turkish Commercial History,’ become the most distinguished names of Turkish Literature and Turkish History, serve as pioneers and symbols of irreplaceable successes in industry, the economy, and national development, attain the honor of providing the highest services in the field of health, and become the pride of Türkiye in the teaching profession, monuments of science, knowledge, morality, and virtue. Let us establish such an educational and teaching staff that our school’s teachers and administrators are educators who have grasped the virtue of the teaching profession, who are idealistic, devoted, and highly talented.”
The privilege of being a member of İzmir Özel Türk Koleji has been deeply felt in hearts for 76 years, through the core values of its mission to “educate contemporary, balanced, and happy Turkish youth who can make the right choices and contribute multidimensionally to themselves and their surroundings,” and continues to be felt.
İzmir Özel Türk Koleji, drawing strength from its tens of thousands of graduates, continues to educate the Atatürkist youth of the future at its 5 campuses and 6 kindergartens, to bring the bright faces of our country into life, and to move forward in the light of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk by adding new achievements to its record with each passing day.
