Primary School PDR Activities

At our school, the PDR (Psychological Counseling and Guidance) Service carries out activities to support students’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development.

Orientation Activities
These activities are carried out to facilitate students’ adaptation to school and to introduce the PDR department. Comprehensive orientation activities are conducted in coordination with school stakeholders. Lesson content includes games and activities designed to help students become familiar with the school and its departments. With the support of these activities, students adapt to school more easily, feel a sense of security, and gain information about the PDR department.
Who is the PDR specialist/teacher and where are they located?
Which topics can I share with my PDR specialist?
During the first days of school, activities are implemented to increase students’ adaptation to school. In addition, parents are informed about what should be done during this process.

Orientation Memory Cards
Through our orientation memory cards created around our Social Skills Education hero and mascot cat “Patik,” illustrated by psychologists from the İTK PDR Department, young students’ school adaptation processes and the development of their daily routines are supported.

Orientation Frequently Asked Questions and Answers Booklet
Prepared to accelerate the school adaptation processes of young students and their parents, ensure the process progresses in a healthy way, and increase parent collaboration, these question-and-answer materials serve as a bedside guide for parents.

İTK-Specific Social Skills Education Program and Mascot Cat Patik
In our primary school preparatory, 1st, and 2nd grades, an original Social Skills Education program prepared by İTK psychologists is offered to support children’s holistic well-being. Our program is delivered through stories developed by psychologists from the İTK PDR Department and brought to life by our lovable character Patik. Throughout this journey, children learn essential social skills such as saying “no,” privacy awareness, table manners, peer relationships, and emotion regulation in a natural and enjoyable way.

Preventive and Protective Mental Health Studies
These are preventive guidance activities carried out with students before they encounter age-specific challenges. The aim is to support students’ healthy emotional and social development through preventive practices implemented prior to potential age-related difficulties. In studies conducted at younger grade levels, the Social Skills Education mascot cat “Patik,” whose drawings and stories were created by psychologists from the İTK PDR Department, is used.

School Readiness Scale Studies
The “School Readiness Scale” is administered to students attending İTK Preparatory Classes prior to Grade 1. Scale reports are shared with families and classroom teachers. For prospective Grade 1 students who will enroll in our school, PDR kits developed by the İTK PDR Department are administered, and information is shared with prospective parents regarding areas that can be supported before primary school.

Group Studies
These are guidance activities carried out based on identified needs to help primary school students get to know themselves better, become aware of their emotions, express themselves accurately, develop effective listening and empathy skills, and strengthen problem-solving abilities.
